Furniture Remodeling

I’ve always known that painting calms my nerves (even if I’m not very good at it), and last year realized how much I enjoy remodeling furniture. Last summer I took a rusted, metal, garden table decoration, and re-sanded and re-painted it. Not only was it relaxing to me, but the piece turned out rather well. Recently, I have been working on two rusted metal tables – the one is complete, while I am having trouble with the other table because the paint is much too thin.

Top Shop

I was just at TOPSHOP (Kate Moss’s clothing store) for the first time ever, and I have to say I liked a lot of the designs. The designs are very modern and even a tad edgy, and the British influence is very apparent. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

TOPSHOP, Multi Animal Print Insert Colour Block Tee

The actual top I saw in the store had a black top-half instead of the peach color shown here. I was instantly attracted to this shirt. Animal prints are just my style, and what I love about this tee is that the top-half is made out of a mesh see through type of material. This makes it a little fancier.

TOPSHOP, Black Straw Twist Lock Bag

What a cute bag! This is the perfect little cross body bag for the summer. The straw material gives it more of a summer feel, while the leather trim and twist lock make it rather chic.

TOPSHOP, JOELLE Camel Peep Toe Court Shoe

I love how simple yet classy these shoes are, and the color is beautiful. I’m a huge fan of browns, tans, and camel colors. Peep toes are great for the summer when you need to dress a little fancier, but still show off that pedicure.

New York Apology

I must apologize that my updates have been so few lately. I have been traveling between three cities, interviewing for jobs. Currently I am in NYC awaiting a second interview (fingers crossed!). Here are a few pictures I’ve taken while visiting.

Pretty view from the subway.

Funny Style Quote of the Day

I came across this Oscar Wilde quote today and it really made me laugh. Somebody doesn’t like fashion “trends!”

“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”

British Hat Tradition

If any of you watched the Royal wedding, or saw the pictures of it online afterwards, you must have noticed all the hats that the English wore to the grand event. I seem to have an obsession with anything British (especially after falling in love with the country years ago from a short visit), and this hat tradition fascinates me. I did a little research to find out why the hat-craze is so popular, and while I couldn’t find a direct answer, I found some interesting tid-bits.

-The tradition goes back many many years when women had to wear hats to churches, and continue to do so today.

-Hats are mostly worn to the “poshest” (I know this probably is not a word) English weddings and social events. At these weddings, the royals will be seen wearing hats as well as the direct family of the couple.

Here are some photos of this years Derby race hats, which took place in Epsom, England.

Examiner.com

Hello Friends! I have just been accepted as a Philadelphia Fashion Budget Examiner, on examiner.com. I am so excited about this new opportunity and wanted to share it with all of you. Here’s a link to my Examiner page. If anyone has an interest in writing for the Examiner, do feel free to ask me questions. Hope you are all enjoying the summer and staying cool in this heat. You know it’s hot when my little pup doesn’t even bury himself under the covers at night (that is among his favorite things to do).

New Finds

My mom and I seem to have an obsession with T.J. Maxx/Marshall’s. Honestly, where can you get better deals?! We went shopping the other day, but since I am on a budget once again, I didn’t buy anything, just browsed (I know, very hard to believe). Look at these fun new finds.

T.J. Maxx, Fashionista Cookie Cutters, $4.99

Now I’m about as un-domestic as it gets – really, don’t ask me to cook or clean because you’ll end up having to do it all over again – but these are adorable! They are cookie cutters made especially for a “fashionista.” The cookie cutter shapes include, a dress, a shirt, a bag, and a diamond ring. Right up my alley.

T.J. Maxx, Wooden Candle, $12.99

This is a really nice coffee table decoration, especially with the “going green” trend. The candle holder is made out of bits of wood, and all the candles are a simple white. Of course you could buy different colored tea lights and use those as well.

T.J. Maxx, "Flyaway" Top, $12.99

“Flyaway” (for lack of a better term) tops, are the trend in summer fashion. I wasn’t sure what I thought of this at first, but now I think I’m starting to like these types of tops. The baggier the better this summer, and really it makes for a more comfortable day. What I love about this top, is the material is a sort of mesh/light sweater material.
