Wall Art

I have always loved words (probably why one of my majors was English!). I especially love words, when they show up where they aren’t expected. For example, in artwork. Here are three pieces of art I found in the store the other day, which I absolutely loved – gives the art a whole different meaning.

The meaning of life is quite simply, whatever you want it to be.

Love is like oxygen. You can’t live without it.

To laugh often and much. To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children. To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty. To find the best in others. To leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child or a garden patch. To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to be a success. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle – DC Expo

This past weekend, my friends and I attended the Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle, expo in Washington DC, hosted by DC50. It was a fun event, which showcased products by Stella & Dot, Bebe, Salon Virage (along with many others), and even included a meet and greet with Nigel Barker. Unfortunately, we missed out on the meet and greet, but we did get the chance to browse through designers, watch a “What Not to Wear” type¬† of event on stage with stylist Monica Bartlett, and watch the fashion show (my favorite event there).

Heels.

LOOK at those heels!

My favorite dress at the event.

Fashion Show

Monica Bartlett, Stylist tips.

One question that an audience member asked stylist Monica Bartlett was, “Is it okay to wear white after Labor Day?” Her answer was that yes, white is in style after Labor Day, but there are 3 rules.

1) Don’t wear white from head to toe.

2) Mix it up (for ex: wear a white top with dark pants).

3) Try to keep white above the waist.

Of course, there were exceptions to these rules such as, if someone lives on the West Coast where the weather is significantly warmer.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Red Pineapple

We are so often caught up in our very own hectic lives as well as others, and at times it is difficult to let go and breathe simply and realize what is in fact important. Ironically, this thought came to me while browsing a boutique called Red Pineapple, in St. Augustine, Florida. If you are ever there, do pay a visit to this adorable store. What I so loved about this boutique, was not only the great selection of unique products, but the way the boutique incorporated words, quotes, and phrases – it really gave the store an interesting feel. Below are some photos from Red Pineapple.

Shown in this photo, is an old typewriter (I was so excited to see this!) and a decoration in the form of a wooden block, with the line “How do I love thee! Let me count the ways.” This is one of my absolute favorite poems, written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, entitled Sonnet 43.

Summer Endings

Since summer is winding down (and I am currently on summer vacation!) I’d like to share with you my summer “staple” pieces – just for kicks. It’s always interesting to me, when I take “inventory” of my clothing, shoes, bags, etc., and realize that I really only wear a few things over and over again. You’d think this would be incentive enough to perform a “closet cleanse”, and make room more for more clothing that I will inevitably buy, but this is never the case. There are certain things I just can’t part with! A good rule I have recently heard: If you haven’t worn it within a year, then get rid of it. Here are my personal “staple” pieces this summer.

Bass, Sandals

I like to call these my gladiator sandals. They are quite worn (as is noticeable in the photo) and I just bought them this summer! What I love about these shoes, is that they have a small wedge in the back, but are so comfortable because of the cushioned material they are made out it. While the way a shoe looks is very important to me, comfort is equally as important. Why walk around in a pair of beautiful shoes if your feet will hurt for days after?

Crocs, Slingback Flats

Crocs is my brand for summer shoes. Really, there are three pairs of Crocs shoes I would alternate wearing this summer, including the above pair. Who knew that rubber shoes could be so comfortable and…cute? What I love about Crocs, is the way the company has expanded into creating more fashionable shoes, such as the ones seen in the picture above (one of my favorite pairs).

H&M, Linen Pants

I love linen pants. Especially for the summer, and especially these. Linen is light and breathable – perfect for chillier summer nights. Army green is one of my favorite clothing colors, and it’s easy to match. In addition, these pants are capris, and wearing capris (at least to me) always screams warmer weather.

What were your “staple” pieces this summer?

Style Outside The Box

Style Outside The Box is a great new online store, that sells the most unique luxury goods made by independent designers. While looking at all the items today (I practically want to buy them all!) I found a scarf, which I absolutely love and feel the need to share.

Pirose Bevin Scarf, $35

Why is this scarf so great you ask? Well besides the fact that I seem to have a scarf obsession (along with a boot and bag obsession…), this accessory can be worn twelve different ways! It can be worn as a scarf, a shawl, a top (as pictured above), and many many other ways. I think I need it…

Daily Coco Quote

“I am not young but I feel young. The day I feel old, I will go to bed and stay there. J’aime la vie! I feel that to live is a wonderful thing.” – Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel

A new biography entitled Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life by Lisa Chaney, will be released¬† this November. Can’t wait! The book talks about the style icon’s bisexuality, drug use, and lover who was a German spy for the Nazis.
